Interior and Exterior Doors, Installed and Repaired

Handyman At Your Command handles door installation and repair for homes in Odenton, Maryland. We hang interior doors, replace front entry doors and install storm doors. We also fix doors that stick, drag, sag or will not latch. Closet, bifold, pocket and sliding patio doors are on the list too. Most of Odenton was built in the 1990s and 2000s, so we see a lot of builder-grade hollow-core doors.

Every job starts with a free estimate at the house. A technician measures the opening, checks whether the frame is square, and looks at the hinges and the threshold. You know the number before the old door comes off. We cover Anne Arundel County, including Crofton, and we take commercial door work for businesses as well as houses. Most single-door jobs finish in one visit.

Interior Door Installation and Closet Doors

Interior door installation splits two ways. A prehung door comes already hung in its own frame, so it drops into the opening plumb. A slab is just the door on its own. It gets fitted to the jamb you already have, and the hinges and strike are cut to match. About 72 percent of Odenton's housing was built in 1990 or later, with a median year built of 1999. Those homes came with builder-grade hollow-core doors. Swapping one for a solid-core door in a bedroom or a home office cuts most of the hallway noise.

Closet doors are their own set of problems. Bifolds jump the track, sliders come off the rollers, and some closets never got real doors at all. We install bifold, sliding and double closet doors, and we hang French doors between rooms. Pocket doors take longer, because the track sits inside the wall. Townhouses are 35 percent of Odenton's housing, and a whole-floor swap there usually means five or six matching doors. In a home built before 1978, pulling painted casing falls under the EPA lead-safe renovation rule. A paid crew has to be certified for that work. New casing and hardware finish the job, and our trim and casing carpentry page covers the molding side.

Front Entry Doors, Storm Doors and Patio Doors

Front door replacement is the exterior job homeowners put off the longest. The signs show up slowly. A draft along the edge in January. A soft dark spot at the bottom of the jamb. A deadbolt that needs a shoulder to throw. We pull the old unit, check the sill and jamb for rot, and set the new door plumb before sealing the threshold. A jamb that can be saved is handled as wood rot repair instead of a replacement. Celiane Boston left a five-star Google review: "Handyman at your command did some work in my home. They were professional and nice. The work was completed in the same day. I love my new front door."

Storm doors are a shorter visit. We hang the door, set the closer speed and adjust the sweep so it seals at the sill. Sliding patio doors are the other big exterior job. When a slider drags, the rollers underneath are usually flattened or packed with grit. Wood takes on moisture in humid weather and gives it back when the air dries. That is why a door that closed fine in March binds in a humid July. Garage doors run on springs and openers and are a separate trade. We install deadbolts, keyed locksets and door hardware, and door and casing painting rides along on the same visit.

Door Repair Costs for Sticking Doors and Rotted Frames

Most door calls start as repairs. A door that sticks at the top corner has usually dropped. The fix is often longer screws driven through the hinge into the framing. A door that will not latch needs the strike plate moved a hair. Split slabs, cracked hollow-core panels and rotted jambs are the ones that argue for replacement. HomeAdvisor puts the average door repair at $239, with most jobs between $132 and $372. Its doorframe repair range is $350 to $850. Fixr publishes $319 to $594 for an exterior door jamb and $35 to $66 for rescreening a small panel.

Replacement is the bigger number. Our Maryland interior door cost guide puts interior doors at $362 to $1,235 per door installed. The published national average is $799. NerdWallet lists entry doors at $150 to $3,000 and sliding glass doors at $600 to $5,000. Homewyse estimated $1,002 to $1,527 per exterior door in September 2026, and our exterior door replacement cost guide breaks down front entry, storm and patio door prices. Those are published market ranges, not a quote from us. The estimate is free and happens on site. Anne Arundel County does not list a like-for-like door swap on its permit page. Cutting a new or wider opening changes the wall and falls under a residential alteration permit. Old holes around the opening get patched by our drywall patching crew.

What is the average cost to install a door?
Published guides put an interior door at $362 to $1,235 installed, with a national average of $799. Exterior entry doors run $150 to $3,000 depending on the material. Homewyse estimated $1,002 to $1,527 per exterior door in September 2026. Those come from published cost guides and are not our price. Our estimate is free and happens at your house.
How much does it usually cost to repair a door?
HomeAdvisor's published average is $239, with most repairs between $132 and $372. Fixr lists an interior door adjustment at $96 to $180 and an exterior one at $181 to $336. A rotted exterior jamb runs $319 to $594 in the same guide. Repair usually wins until the slab is split or the frame is soft.
Can a handyman fix a door?
Yes. Hanging doors, adjusting hinges, moving strike plates, patching a hollow-core panel and setting deadbolts are standard handyman work. Maryland has no separate handyman license. Paid home improvement work needs an MHIC contractor license, with no small-job exemption. We are licensed, bonded and insured. Our guide on where the Maryland license line falls explains it.
How long does a door installation take?
A prehung interior door usually takes one to two hours once the old one is out. A slab fitted to an existing jamb takes longer, since the hinges and strike get cut by hand. A front entry door is most of a day, since the frame, sill and weather seal are all set. Storm doors are a short morning.
Should I repair my door or replace it?
Repair when the door sticks, drags, will not latch or has a small hole in a hollow-core panel. Replace when the slab is split, badly warped, or soft at the bottom from water. Replace the frame when the jamb is rotted or split. A new door hung in a bad jamb still will not close right.
What is someone who fixes doors called?
A finish carpenter or a handyman, depending on the job. Hanging a door, fitting hinges and hardware, and repairing a jamb are all finish carpentry. That is the trade our technicians work in every day. If the wall around the frame needs patching, the same visit covers the drywall too.

Great customer service as well as great work quality. I had my fence bent down completely because of a storm and I called handyman at your command immediately. Even though it was after hours I still able to set up a time for someone to fix the fence first thing in the morning. The handyman was prompt and very nice.

I was finally able to get my master bath updated after 20 years of purchasing my home. Jose the owner of the company came out and held our hand from beginning to end. From demo to completion of the project, they always kept our home sparkling and clean which was a big deal for us as our child has respiratory issues.

Mine 2uGoogle review

I've been hiring Handyman At Your Command and working with Tracy for about 8 years now, and have always been completely satisfied and happy with their work. Recently we have had Hugo and Jose come out and they helped to find the source of a roof leak- then they repaired the ceiling drywall, painted, and also did other jobs around the house.
